Insurance Recovery

Pamela Woods is a partner in Liner’s Insurance Recovery Group. Ms. Woods handles a wide range of insurance recovery matters, including claims under directors and officers liability, homeowners, general liability, errors and omissions, and property insurance policies. She has represented clients seeking recoveries for many types of claims and losses, including claims for bodily injury, business interruption, defamation, derivative liabilities, and property damage.

Ms. Woods has worked with a number of clients in negotiating with insurers regarding coverage for losses caused by allegedly defective products in the post-loss, pre-litigation setting. She has represented a major container manufacturer in multiple matters involving coverage for contamination of and damage to food products caused by allegedly defective containers, including in litigation and before the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. Ms. Woods currently represents Dole Food Company in negotiations with its insurers regarding coverage for Listeria claims, as well as in a $65,000,000 directors and officers coverage lawsuit in Delaware in which the court just issued a decision rejecting the insurers’ primary coverage defense. She also represents the Los Angeles Lakers in a lawsuit to obtain coverage under a directors and officers liability for a class action lawsuit brought against the Lakers for violation of the Telephone Consumer Protection Act.  Ms. Woods also has developed the litigation strategies and recovery theories used in major litigation against insurers, insurance brokers, and others, contributing to the recovery of several hundred million dollars.

In addition to her insurance coverage experience, Ms. Woods also has civil litigation experience in a wide range of areas, including products liability, securities fraud, toxic torts, and contractual disputes. She has handled all aspects of civil litigation, including trials, appellate briefing, and oral arguments before the California Courts of Appeal. She also has coordinated the defense of clients faced with mass toxic tort litigation.

Ms. Woods also served on the faculty of the UCLA School of Law. While at UCLA, she concentrated on teaching legal writing and clinical litigation skills. Ms. Woods was one of the designers of the school’s innovative first-year Lawyering Skills program. In the course of her 13 years at UCLA, she also taught or co-taught clinical classes in trial advocacy; pretrial lawyering, depositions, and discovery; and interviewing, counseling, and negotiation.

Ms. Woods also has worked in public relations and has been a freelance writer and editor. Her articles on a wide range of topics have been published in newspapers and magazines.
